Electricity Prices: Cyprus's Position and Comparison with Other EU Member States

Cyprus ranks as the 9th most expensive country in the European Union regarding retail electricity prices for households. According to Commission data, in the second quarter of 2025, the cost reached 30.9 cents per kilowatt-hour, higher than the EU average (24.6 cents). Germany has the highest prices (399 euros/megawatt-hour), while Hungary has the lowest (92 euros/megawatt-hour). Greece is in a better position with 23.2 cents per kilowatt-hour. Prices in the EU increased marginally due to taxes and network costs. At the same time, electricity consumption increased in 17 EU countries. Electric vehicle sales hit a record high, with an increase of almost 30% in the second quarter of 2024, mainly in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands.
