Emergency Holy Synod Meeting Scheduled - Bishop Tychikos Excluded and Responds with Letter Regarding Health

The Holy Synod will convene in an emergency session tomorrow, Thursday, January 8, 2026, with issues related to the Holy Metropolis of Paphos and the amendment of articles of the Statute of the Church of Cyprus (K.Ch.E.K.). The invitation for the meeting was sent by Archbishop Georgios on December 31, 2025, to all Metropolitans and Bishops, except for the former Bishop of Paphos, Tychikos. Tychikos, in a letter to the Archbishop, expressed his observation that he had not been invited to the meeting and informed him that he is in Cyprus but will be absent again due to medical examinations. The Synod's letter outlines the topics to be discussed, while Tychikos' letter emphasizes the need for continued medical examinations and the uncertainty regarding their dates. The absence of an invitation to Tychikos and his response with a letter indicate a continuing tension between him and the Holy Synod.
