Emergency Holy Synod Meeting: Tychikos, Abbakum, and Archbishop's Controversial Proposal

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus is convening in an emergency session to address the issue of Bishop Tychikos, who has appealed to civil courts claiming the Metropolis of Paphos. This appeal is considered unprecedented and contrary to Church practice, as the Synod and the Ecumenical Patriarchate have already made decisions on the matter. Simultaneously, proposed changes to the Church's Statutory Charter will be discussed, focusing on the election process for Bishops and Metropolitans. The Archbishop of Cyprus proposes exclusive election by the Holy Synod, bypassing the participation of the laity. Finally, the Synod will examine complaints regarding former monks of the Abbakum Monastery who are allegedly performing religious duties despite being defrocked.
