Emergency Meeting Called for Athallasas Hospital Amid Safety Concerns

The Minister of Health, Neophytos Charalambides, has called a meeting to address the structural condition of Athallasas Hospital following complaints from nurses and the results of a static study that revealed the buildings are dangerous and structurally inadequate. The meeting will take place on Monday at 11:15 AM, and a specific action plan to address the situation will be requested. In addition, the Minister commented on the incident involving a 42-year-old woman found unconscious in the toilet of Larnaca General Hospital. He confirmed that the Ministry received a complaint, which was immediately forwarded to the OKYPY for investigation. Mr. Charalambides stated that he is awaiting the results of the investigation from the OKYPY, emphasizing that the complaint was transferred urgently to investigate the case. The priority is a thorough investigation of the circumstances that led to the incident. The situation at Athallasas Hospital has raised concerns, as it is the only psychiatric center in Cyprus. The immediate need to address the structural problems is critical for the safety of patients and staff.
