Cyprus celebrated Epiphany with splendor, featuring religious ceremonies and the blessing of the waters. Many faithful dove into the sea to retrieve the cross, but some unexpected events occurred. In Limassol, the cross thrown into the sea was lost after the swimmer who found it disappeared, while in Ayia Napa, a second wooden cross had to be thrown after an issue with the gold one. The President Christodoulides and Archbishop Georgios attended the events in Paphos, where a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and Great Blessing of the Epiphany were held. The President wished everyone a happy and enlightening new year, emphasizing the importance of the day for Hellenism and Orthodoxy. A traditional procession followed, leading to the Paphos harbor where the Archbishop performed the immersion of the Holy Cross. The procession was accompanied by the Police Philharmonic and the National Guard Philharmonic, while three doves were released symbolizing the descent of the Holy Spirit. In Limassol, the Divine Liturgy was held at the Cathedral of Agia Napa, presided over by Metropolitan Athanasios. A procession followed to the old port for the immersion of the cross, with the participation of officials and citizens. Despite the cold, many dove in to receive the blessing.
