Erhurman Proposes New Crossing Points, Refrains from Defining Solution Framework

The Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhurman, has proposed four new crossing points from Mia Milia to Pyrgos and Louroutzina, but refrained from specifying the form of the solution he envisions. He focused on the re-utilization of “common powers” based on political equality in crucial areas such as hydrocarbons, energy, maritime zones, trade, security, and EU citizenship, emphasizing his unwillingness to act unilaterally in these matters. He believes that discussing the form of the solution is premature and could distract from the core issue – finalizing the methodology and procedures. Furthermore, he underscored that the will to find a solution must be demonstrated not only at the negotiating table but also through actions in everyday political practice, and that the Turkish dimension is unavoidable for any solution. Finally, he acknowledged the need for a second vehicle crossing point in Nicosia.
