EU Calls for Swift Government Formation in Kosovo After Political Stalemate

The European Union is calling for a swift formation of a government in Kosovo, following the political stalemate after the February 2025 elections. The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kajsa Kallas, states that the EU looks forward to continuing its cooperation with the Kosovo authorities and to the rapid establishment of the new Assembly and Government. Kallas emphasizes the need to double efforts for the necessary reforms related to the EU, as well as the active participation of all communities and political parties. The EU recognizes Kosovo's strong commitment to democratic principles and has deployed an Election Observation Mission of Experts to monitor the post-election processes. The EU urges the Parliament to ratify the Development Plan for the Western Balkans as soon as possible, in order to fully utilize the opportunities it offers for the development of Kosovo. In addition, it reiterates that the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, with the help of the EU, is the only way to European progress for both countries. Kallas stresses that the EU expects the full implementation of all obligations arising from the Agreement on Normalization and previous Dialogue agreements, without further delays or preconditions. Finally, she states that the EU is ready to host a high-level meeting as soon as conditions allow.
