EU Commission and Cyprus Cabinet Outline Priorities

The European Commission’s College of Commissioners and the Cyprus Cabinet held a joint session, outlining the guidelines for the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. The discussion was divided into four working groups, focusing on key areas: strengthening defense and security, improving European competitiveness, promoting the EU’s international role, and enhancing social cohesion. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of the Presidency for Europe, while Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides referred to the approval of the EU-Mercosur agreement as a first significant achievement. Cyprus will work closely with the Commission to reduce bureaucracy and support small and medium-sized enterprises. Issues related to the Eastern Mediterranean and the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028-2034 were also discussed.
