EU Commissioner Presents AI Approach in Nicosia

EU Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, Michael McGrath, presented the EU's approach to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Nicosia. The presentation took place within the framework of the Interparliamentary Conference on AI, organized by the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. McGrath emphasized the need to establish “protective boundaries” through legislation and measures to ensure platform accountability and user protection. He referred to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Digital Services Act (DSA), the Code of Conduct on Disinformation, the Regulation on Political Advertising, and the European Media Freedom Act. He also highlighted the growing challenge of disinformation and “deepfakes” created using AI, as well as the need to address the potential undermining of democratic processes.
