EU Economy Challenges Dominate First Cyprus Presidency ECOFIN Council

The first EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) under the Cypriot Presidency, led by Finance Minister Makis Keravnos, took place in Brussels. Discussions focused on the challenges facing the European economy, the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan – a program the Cypriot Presidency will oversee until mid-2026 – and the continued funding of Ukraine in light of the Russian invasion. A preliminary discussion also covered international developments, particularly concerning Greenland, which is of interest to other EU member states. Minister Keravnos described the issues discussed as serious and important for the EU.
