EU Leaders to Convene for Discussions on Transatlantic Relations

Published January 22, 2026, 17:24

The leaders of the 27 European Union member states will convene for an informal European Council to discuss transatlantic relations and formulate a common stance towards new challenges. The meeting was deemed necessary due to the uncertainty in EU-US relations following the assumption of duties by the new US administration and recent statements by Trump. The EU wishes to maintain and strengthen the transatlantic relationship, but will react with unity and determination when necessary, without relying on social media statements. The agenda includes Greenland, security in the Arctic, trade threats, and support for Ukraine.
