Eurovision Announces First-Ever Tour Amidst Participation Concerns

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has announced the first-ever tour in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest, as part of celebrations for the competition's 70th anniversary. This move comes during a period of increasing criticism and country withdrawals from the contest, due to Israel's participation and the war in Gaza, resulting in only 35 participating countries – the lowest number since 2004. The tour will take place in June and July, across ten European cities, including London and Paris, and will commence immediately after the final in Vienna on May 16th. It will feature performances by iconic Eurovision artists, as well as the 2026 contestants, performing both their own songs and covers of classic tracks. Concurrently, some countries have accused Israel of manipulating the voting system, while the withdrawal of countries such as Ireland, Spain, Iceland, the Netherlands, and Slovenia, along with Nemo, the 2024 winner, returning the trophy, highlight the tension surrounding Israel's participation. Conchita Wurst has also announced her withdrawal from future Eurovision events. The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation Kan defended Israel's participation, rejecting allegations of political interference. Simultaneously, there is a decrease in interest in the competition, with fewer viewers tuning in for the semi-final draw compared to the previous year. Greece will compete in the First Semi-Final on May 12th.
