Eva Schloss, Anne Frank's Stepsister and Holocaust Survivor, Dies at 96

Eva Schloss, step-sister of Anne Frank and a Holocaust survivor, has died at the age of 96 in London. Schloss dedicated her life to preserving the memory of the Holocaust and combating prejudice, co-founding the Anne Frank Trust in 1990. Her family expressed their deep sorrow at her loss, describing her as a remarkable woman, educator, and devoted to keeping the memory alive. King Charles III and his wife Camilla also expressed their profound sadness, having had the honor of knowing her. Born in Austria in 1929, Schloss experienced the Nazi invasion of her country and the persecution of her family. She went into hiding with her family in Amsterdam, near the home of Anne Frank, with the two families maintaining a close friendship. Her mother and Anne Frank's father, Otto, survived Auschwitz and married after the war. Eva Schloss recounted her experiences around the world and was honored for her contribution to education and the promotion of peace. She became a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2013 and regained her Austrian citizenship in 2021.
