Evacuation of Communities in Northern Ukraine Due to Russian Strikes

Authorities in the Chernihiv region of northern Ukraine have ordered the evacuation of 14 villages near the borders with Russia and Belarus due to daily Russian shelling. The area, which had been spared from ground battles after the Ukrainian counteroffensive in 2022, is now within range of fire from Russia, primarily using drones. Approximately 300 residents are affected by the evacuation, which must be completed within 30 days. Moscow has intensified its air strikes, mainly targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure, causing power outages. This year, over 1,400 residents have already left the border zone. A recent drone strike by Russia on the city of Novhorod-Siverskyi resulted in the deaths of four people. Ukraine is proceeding with mandatory evacuations of civilians, especially in the eastern regions, while diplomatic talks are underway to achieve peace.
