Farmers' Market Strike Suspended

Published January 7, 2026, 21:06

Producers and traders of farmers' markets have decided to suspend their strike action following meetings with representatives of the Ministries of Development and National Economy & Finance. The farmers' markets will resume normal operation from Friday throughout the country. The decision to suspend the strike was made as the Ministries agreed to review the issue of the presumptive taxation method, as well as the issue of the electronic consignment note for producers and sellers of farmers' markets. According to announcements, the presumptive taxation method will be adjusted to the actual income of the sellers, while electronic invoicing will be implemented in a way that reflects the operating data of the farmers' markets. The Panhellenic Federation of Associations of Farmers' Market Sellers states that there was a “positive development in all our requests from the Ministry of Finance, on a new basis”. At the same time, the Confederation of Producers-Professionals of Industrial Goods of Farmers' Markets of Greece and the Federation of Farmers' Markets Producers point out that the indefinite suspension of the strike and the blockade of the Renti vegetable market came after constructive meetings with the competent ministers and the head of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue. However, producers and traders warn that if a final decision on the issues that concern them is not reached within ten days, they will return with dynamic mobilizations.
