The former Metropolitan Bishop of Paphos, Tychikos, has announced his intention to take the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus to civil court to reclaim his metropolitan seat. In a letter to the Synod, he claims the seat was legally granted to him through an electoral process. The Holy Synod will discuss the matter at its next meeting on January 8th. Simultaneously, they will consider a proposal from the Archbishop of Cyprus to amend the Church's charter, aiming for the election of Metropolitan Bishops and Bishops by the Holy Synod and the Archbishop by the people. Tychikos's move comes amid intense discussions regarding the administrative organization of the Church of Cyprus.
