France: Dominique Pelicot Investigated as Suspect in Two 'Cold Cases' of Rape and Murder

An investigation into the “criminal activity” of Dominique Pelicot, the ex-husband of Gisèle Pelicot, the main defendant in the shocking “Mazans rapes” case, has been launched by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Nanterre. The investigation concerns two unsolved cases of rape and murder dating back to 1991 and 1999, with the aim of determining whether Pelicot committed other crimes. Dominique Pelicot has already been sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping his wife, allowing dozens of people to abuse her in their home between 2011 and 2020. He partially admits guilt for the attempted rape in 1999, as DNA evidence linking him to the case was found. However, he denies any involvement in the 1991 murder, where no DNA evidence was found. The investigation was launched following a request from the lawyer for the civil parties, Florence Rot, who expressed her surprise that the cases had not been investigated earlier. Rot hopes the investigation will lead to justice for the victims.
