Gamekeepers Threatened with Weapon During Patrol in Paphos – Suspect Released by Court

A serious incident occurred in Paphos, where gamekeepers were threatened with a weapon by poachers during a patrol. Despite the danger, the gamekeepers managed to arrest one of the perpetrators and seize evidence, while the second escaped. The Branch Council of Hourly Paid Gamekeepers expressed strong concerns about the safety of gamekeepers, pointing out that the court's refusal to approve the suspect's temporary detention ties the hands of law enforcement. The ISOTITA Trade Union calls on those responsible to take immediate action to protect the gamekeepers, including granting them a gun license and providing adequate self-protection equipment, as the problem has been known for years. The council emphasizes that the immediate threat to the lives of the gamekeepers and the escape of the armed accomplice require a stricter response.
