Greece: 308,605 Inactive Students Removed from University Rolls

In Greece, the process of clearing university rolls has been completed, resulting in the removal of 308,605 inactive students who were admitted before 2017. This removal took place under Law 4957/2022 and Law 5224/2025. The Minister of Education, Sofia Zacharaki, emphasized that this process corrects an injustice that has existed for decades, as inactive students hindered the planning of institutions and disadvantaged active students. She acknowledged that the framework is not rigid and provides exceptions for specific cases. The Deputy Minister of Education, Nikos Papaioannou, stressed that the clearing of rolls is a step towards rationalizing the academic system and will contribute to upgrading the quality of education.
