Greek FIR Suffers 'Blackout' Due to Transmitter Issue

An unprecedented 'blackout' of frequencies affected the Athens FIR on Sunday, raising concerns about potential external interference. According to reports, the problem was caused by a technical failure of repeaters, resulting in an unintentional and continuous emission of 'noise' on the frequencies. Authorities, in collaboration with OTE and EETT, managed to restore the problem, while an investigation was launched to determine the exact causes. The scenario of a cyberattack or sabotage appears to have been ruled out, as the interference was likely due to technical issues. The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) has launched an urgent preliminary investigation into the incident.
