Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis stated in Parliament that Greece will proceed with the expansion of its territorial waters, without any compromise on sovereignty issues, emphasizing that sovereignty is a “red line”. He pointed out that this expansion will be part of a strategy to strengthen Greek sovereignty, as has already been done with the extension of the territorial sea, agreements with Italy and Egypt, and maritime spatial planning. He placed particular emphasis on supporting Cyprus, describing it as a direct and major priority of Greek foreign policy and stating that Cyprus is also facing a hybrid attack. He also supported the UN initiatives for a Cyprus settlement based on Security Council resolutions and highlighted the importance of the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection. Mr. Gerapetritis clarified that sovereignty issues will not be discussed with Turkey.
