Greek School Principal Sentenced for Taping Student's Mouth Shut

A 60-year-old school principal in Serres, Greece, has been sentenced to two years in prison for unlawful violence and harm to vulnerable individuals, following a complaint about taping a 13-year-old student's mouth shut in class. According to the student's mother's complaint, the principal initially asked a student to put tape in the child's mouth because he was making noise, and then proceeded to do it herself, while asking a classmate to tie his hands. The student remained bound for an hour, until a philologist freed him. The principal, in her apology, claimed she did it “as a joke” and that the student did not appear to be bothered. The sentence is redeemable at ten euros per day. It is noted that there are other complaints from colleagues about her behavior, with signatures that have been sent to the Ministry of Education.
