Greenland: Why is the island so coveted?

Donald Trump reiterated the United States' desire to gain control of Greenland, citing national security reasons and questioning Denmark's sovereignty over the island. Denmark firmly rejected these claims, stating that Greenland does not wish to become part of the US. Greenland is a vast island, roughly the size of Mexico, with a small population (around 60,000 inhabitants, mainly Inuit). Although politically belonging to Denmark, it has significant autonomy since 2009. Climate change and the melting of the ice are making the region increasingly accessible, raising interest in its rich reserves of raw materials, such as uranium, oil, natural gas, and rare earths. This, along with its strategic location, enhances the geopolitical interest in Greenland.
