How the European Public Prosecutor's Office Operates in Investigations

The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) operates autonomously and does not request the assistance of national Public Prosecutors, according to informed sources. The EPPO informs local prosecution authorities only at the start of the investigation and if it is determined that it lacks jurisdiction in a case, deferring to local authorities. When the EPPO exercises its jurisdiction, Cypriot delegated prosecutors, acting under its instructions, provide guidance to police authorities in the same manner as the national Public Prosecutor. This concerns an investigation into European funds within an EU institution, as reported in recent publications.
