How to Get Up to €3,000 in Tax Deductions

The tax reform provides for tax deductions of up to €3,000 per year for taxpayers. These deductions cover mortgage interest, rent, energy upgrades to homes, and the purchase of an electric vehicle. To be eligible for the deductions, certain income criteria must be met, depending on the number of children. Specifically, the income limit for families without children or with one or two children is €100,000, for families with three or four children €150,000, and for families with five or more children €200,000. Each spouse, cohabiting partner, or single person can benefit from the deduction. A deduction of €2,000 applies to mortgage interest for the purchase or construction of a primary residence in Cyprus, even if the loan has been restructured. A similar deduction is also provided for rent. If the amount of interest or rent exceeds €2,000, the deduction is calculated on the actual amount. In addition, deductions of up to €1,000 are provided for energy upgrades to homes and the purchase of an electric vehicle, based on income criteria and the actual cost of expenses. Payments for interest and rent must be made by bank transfer, card or other recognized electronic means of payment.
