Hundreds of Tourists Stranded on Socotra Island Amid Yemen Clashes

More than 400 tourists are stranded on Socotra Island in Yemen after flights were canceled due to ongoing clashes between the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and government forces. Flights to and from Yemen have been disrupted for several days, affecting the three weekly flights that bring tourists from Abu Dhabi. Socotra, known as the 'Galapagos of the Indian Ocean' and a UNESCO World Heritage site, attracts a significant number of tourists. Among those stranded are at least 60 Russians, as well as British, French, American, and Chinese nationals. The tourists are trying to contact their embassies to arrange their return, and the governments of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have been called upon to facilitate the evacuation operation. Despite the fact that the Socotra archipelago has been spared from the bloody conflicts plaguing mainland Yemen, the current situation is creating serious problems for tourists and endangering the island's tourism industry.
