Hungarian Director Béla Tarr Passes Away at 70

Hungarian director Béla Tarr, renowned for his contemplative and dark films, has died at the age of 70 after a long illness. Tarr gained international recognition with his seven-hour film 'Sátántangó' (1994), depicting the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe. He continued to create films such as 'Werchmeister Harmonies' (2000) and 'The Turin Horse' (2011), considered his masterpiece and winner of the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. Following the release of 'The Turin Horse', Tarr retired from directing and founded the film.factory film school in Sarajevo. The European Film Academy honored him with the President's Honorary Award in 2023, recognizing his unique contribution to cinema and his strong political voice.
