Published January 4, 2026, 22:06

MP Nikos Sykas responded to allegations of assault made by his partner, categorically denying the accusations and expressing shock at the leak of the complaint to the media and social networks, characterizing the situation as a “people’s court”. He emphasizes that he respects the investigative procedures and is available to testify truthfully, while reserving his legal rights. The President of DISY, Annita Demetriou, announced that MP Nikos Sykas is removed from the party’s electoral list, stating zero tolerance for allegations of violence. She stressed the importance of a swift and transparent investigation into the case, while respecting the judiciary and the presumption of innocence. According to the woman’s complaint to the Police, the incidents began with an argument on New Year’s Eve and escalated into an assault on Saturday. The reason for the dispute, as stated in the complaint, was the woman’s clothing, which the MP allegedly considered provocative. The case is under investigation by the authorities, while the MP’s public statement and the party’s decision to remove him from the ballot highlight the seriousness of the allegations and the need for transparency and justice. Annita Demetriou called on the MP to voluntarily waive his immunity, thus facilitating the investigation.
