Increase in Aviation Fatalities Worldwide in 2025

In 2025, there was an increase in fatal aviation accidents, with 418 people losing their lives in incidents involving civil aircraft worldwide. Comparatively, 334 deaths were recorded in 2024. Despite the increase, the ratio of deaths to passengers remains on a downward trend in the long term. The probability of dying in an aircraft accident in 2025 was 1 in 11,459,330, significantly lower than in 1970 (1 in 264,000). The worst accident of 2025 occurred in India, with 241 fatalities (229 passengers and 12 crew members, as well as 19 on the ground).
