Indictment Details Against Nicolás Maduro, Wife, and Son

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced an indictment against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, his wife Cilia Flores, and his son Nicolás Maduro Guerra, along with other Venezuelan officials, for corruption and drug trafficking. The indictment alleges that for over 25 years, Maduro and his associates abused their public positions and corrupted legitimate institutions to import tons of cocaine into the United States. Maduro is accused of being at the forefront of this corruption, using his illegally obtained power to facilitate the drug trade. Flores is charged with accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to arrange meetings between drug traffickers and Venezuelan officials. Furthermore, they are accused of ordering kidnappings, assaults, and murders against those who owed them drug money or otherwise undermined their operations, including the murder of a local drug lord in Caracas. Maduro faces charges of conspiracy to commit narcoterrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of firearms, and conspiracy to possess firearms, while Flores faces charges of conspiracy to import cocaine and possession of firearms.
