Informal EU Justice and Home Affairs Council Focuses on Schengen Issues

The Informal Council of EU Ministers for Justice and Home Affairs, within the framework of the Cypriot Presidency, focused on issues related to the Schengen area. Discussions centered on ensuring the smooth functioning of Schengen, preventing and addressing secondary movements, and strengthening cooperation between member states. The importance of full implementation of common rules and avoiding unilateral approaches that could undermine the Schengen area was emphasized. Cyprus presented its national measures to address the challenges arising from its geographical location, which are part of a broader European approach. The Council concluded that addressing secondary movements requires coordinated action and political consistency.
