Interior Ministry Announces Changes to Planning and Land Registry in 2026

The Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, announced that substantial changes will be made to the Planning and Land Registry Departments in 2026, aiming to provide modern services, reduce bureaucracy, and improve public service. These changes are part of a broader effort to reform the Ministry. The Minister provided a brief review of the policies implemented in 2025, describing it as a year of significant challenges but also substantial reforms. Emphasis was placed on strengthening housing policy, offering more solutions, especially for young people and couples. Furthermore, the Ministry streamlined the management of Turkish Cypriot properties, enhancing transparency, equality, and meritocracy. Fast-track development licensing and urban amnesty were also important initiatives, aimed at reducing delays and resolving property issues for thousands of citizens. Finally, the Minister referred to Cyprus's assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, describing it as a significant responsibility and a great opportunity to strengthen Cyprus's voice and prestige in Europe.
