Investigation Launched into Athens FIR Blackout – Passengers and Airlines Seek Compensation

An investigation has been launched by the Athens Prosecutor's Office regarding the recent blackout at the Athens FIR, which caused chaos at airports. The investigation, to be conducted by the Cybercrime Department, will examine the possibility of dangerous interference in air traffic and the causes of the frequency disruptions. Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, assured that there was no risk to flight safety, describing the incident as a technical problem that caused 'noise' in communications. He emphasized that an administrative inquiry will be conducted to assign responsibility and that answers are expected soon. The minister stated that there will be consequences for those responsible, while noting that passengers and airlines are entitled to compensation for cancellations and delays. He also referred to an action plan for the modernization of systems by 2028.
