Iran regime hardens its stance - 'Achievements of the '79 revolution are a red line'

The regime in Tehran is hardening its stance against the ongoing wave of protests that have rocked the country for nearly two weeks. Iranian authorities announced the arrest of 100 'armed rioters' in the city of Baharestan, and the Revolutionary Guards warned that safeguarding the achievements of the 1979 revolution and Iran's security are a 'red line'. The protests, which began as a reaction to inflation, have now taken on a political character, with protesters demanding the overthrow of the regime. Iran accuses the US and Israel of inciting the unrest, while human rights organizations are recording dozens of protester deaths. Meanwhile, internet access remains restricted. Reza Pahlavi, son of the last Shah of Iran, has emerged as a prominent voice of support for the protests from abroad.
