Italy: Technical Issue Leaves Thousands of Passengers Stranded at Bergamo Airport

A technical issue with the landing guidance system and poor visibility led to the suspension of operations at Bergamo-Orio al Serio Airport in Italy on Saturday evening. As a result, thousands of passengers were stranded at the airport overnight. The airport management company, SACBO, announced that the problem was resolved around 11 PM, however, it warned that delays or cancellations of flights may occur. A total of 26 departing flights were canceled, 6 were diverted to other airports, and 7 were rescheduled for Sunday. Images from the airport showed thousands of passengers sleeping on the floor and in baggage check areas. Corriere della Sera reported that the first flights were disrupted around 7 PM Cyprus time. According to real-time information, many Ryanair flights are experiencing delays, while some others have already departed on Sunday.
