Letymbiotis: Venezuelan Case Not Comparable to Cypriot Issue

Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that Cyprus is assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU at a critical geopolitical moment. A strategic priority is to strengthen the EU's role in the Eastern Mediterranean, an approach that has now been adopted by the European Union. The President of the European Commission will soon visit Jordan and Egypt, while leaders from the region will attend the inauguration ceremony of the Presidency in Nicosia. Mr. Letymbiotis also referred to the challenges from Turkey in the Dead Zone, emphasizing the need to record violations of international law. Responding to a question about the crisis in Venezuela, the Spokesman clarified that the situation in Cyprus, with the ongoing occupation, is different and cannot be equated. He stressed, however, the need for a common EU line in dealing with crises, with respect for international law.
