Macron: France Does Not Support or Approve Maduro's Arrest Method

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France does not support or approve the method used by the United States to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. He emphasized the defense of international law and the freedom of peoples, while also describing Maduro as a “dictator” who abused the freedom of his people and rigged the 2024 elections. Macron argued that the winner of the 2024 elections, Edmundo González Urrutia, should play a central role in any potential transition period. Initially, Macron's reaction was criticized, particularly from the left, for not commenting on Washington's methods, but government spokeswoman Mont Brezon clarified that the President's statements were coordinated with Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, who had previously stated that the US operation “contravenes” international law.
