MEP to Brief European Parliament on Turkish Provocations in Mammari and Avlona

MEP Lucas Fourlas will inform the European Parliament about Turkish provocations in Mammari and Avlona, where Turkish soldiers and pseudo-police are obstructing Greek Cypriot farmers from cultivating their land. During a visit to the areas, Mr. Fourlas documented damage to agricultural vehicles and expressed strong dissatisfaction with the attacks against European citizens within the Republic of Cyprus, with the tolerance of the international community. The MEP stressed that such actions encourage Turkish provocation, as similar incidents have occurred before. Mr. Fourlas pledged to immediately inform his Political Group in the European Parliament and all relevant European institutions about the escalation of the situation. He also emphasized the need for Europe to take a clear stance in favor of international law and to react decisively to Turkish violations. Specifically, Mr. Fourlas will submit a written memorandum with detailed information and audiovisual material, documenting the Turkish provocations. He has already requested a meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, to discuss the issue at a high level. Mr. Fourlas' move is an attempt to raise awareness within the European Union about the deteriorating situation in Cyprus and to push for the protection of the rights of Greek Cypriot citizens and the respect of international law by Turkey.
