Minimum Wage in Occupied Territories: €1,237 Gross – Higher than in the Free Areas

The minimum wage in the occupied territories has been set at €1,237 gross (60,618 TL) and €10,762 net (52,738 TL) for the first half of 2026. The decision was made by majority vote, but trade unions are warning they will appeal, considering the increase 'ridiculously low'. Unions argue that the 18.39% increase proposed by employers and the ministry does not meet the needs of workers. To support low-wage earners, the 'Minister of Labour' announced a grant of 12,000 TL (approximately €245) for those paid the minimum wage, with half paid in advance over six months. However, this grant applies only to 'citizens of the TRNC' whose insurance contributions are based on the minimum wage. The 'Minister' stated that the aim of the grant is to complete the minimum wage increase and protect workers from current economic conditions. However, trade unions are strongly reacting, speaking of a lack of cooperation and injustice. The minimum wage in the occupied territories is higher than that in the free areas.
