Minister of Justice Outlines Plans for Police and Prison System Upgrade

The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris, announced that the upgrade of the Police and the prison system is a central priority of the government, with an emphasis on citizen safety and crime prevention. The goal is to increase police presence on the streets and enhance technology and equipment for better crime prevention. Mr. Fytiris expressed confidence that every citizen should feel safe, day and night, thanks to the actions of the Police and the cooperation of relevant services. Regarding the prison system, he stressed the need to treat it as a rehabilitation institution and not merely as a prison, with the aim of reintegrating prisoners into society. He predicted that the operation and supervision of prisons require constant engagement and interdepartmental cooperation, while stating that there is excellent staff in the Ministry and close cooperation with the Police, Fire Brigade, and prison system. He also proposed a scoring system for evaluating members of the Police and prison staff, taking into account their position and working conditions. The Minister of Justice emphasized the importance of leadership and persuasion, wanting to be heard and accepted by his subordinates, not because of authority, but because of trust and faith in his decisions. Finally, he stressed that the organizational structure and hierarchy are essential for the smooth functioning of any organization, sending a message of discipline and effective cooperation.
