Mount Etna Erupts with Lava Flow Heading Towards Valle del Bove

Mount Etna in Sicily is experiencing a new phase of eruptive activity, with a lava flow heading towards the Valle del Bove valley. The activity began on the afternoon of January 1, 2026, with lava flowing from an opening at an altitude of approximately 2,000–2,100 meters. The lava is moving slowly and controllably within the valley, which acts as a natural protective barrier. So far, no damage or risks to residents have been reported, however, authorities remain on high alert and scientists continue to monitor the volcano.
