Mystery Surrounds Death in Larnaca – GBL Substance Linked to Illnesses

A 78-year-old man died in Larnaca, while four people who visited him showed symptoms of poisoning and are hospitalized at the Larnaca General Hospital. Police investigations are focusing on the substance “gamma-Butyrolactone” (GBL), which was detected in samples from the deceased's home. This substance, a common industrial solvent, is converted into GHB in the body, a dangerous substance. The 78-year-old was found unconscious by his daughter, while his visitors developed symptoms after consuming water from a water cooler in his house. The health condition of the hospitalized individuals is now stable, but the case remains under investigation to determine the exact cause of death and the circumstances of the poisoning.
