New Earthquake in Paphos: What is the Connection to the November Double Shock?

Published January 8, 2026, 13:26

A seismic tremor of 3.2 magnitude was recorded in Paphos at 1:25 PM on January 8th. According to the Geological Survey Department, the earthquake is related to the double strong tremor in November (5.2 and 5.3 magnitude) and the subsequent seismic sequence that has recorded over 300 earthquakes in the same area. The epicenter of the tremor was in the wider area of Agia Marina Kelokedaron, 23 kilometers east of Paphos, with a focal depth of 25 kilometers. The earthquake was felt in the provinces of Paphos and Limassol. Geologists report that the seismic sequence is evolving smoothly, however, the possibility of further felt earthquakes in the future cannot be ruled out. Information on the seismicity of Cyprus is published on the websites of the Seismological Center (www.gsd-seismology.org.cy and www2.gsd-seismology.org.cy).
