Nicosia Named Europe's Best Cultural Destination for 2026 by EBD

Nicosia has been named Europe's Best Cultural Destination for 2026 by European Best Destinations (EBD). The distinction was based on an assessment by an international panel of cultural experts and public voting, with Nicosia receiving the highest score (18.6/20) from over 22,000 travelers from 131 countries. The selection of Nicosia recognizes the unique coexistence of rich historical heritage and contemporary artistic creation, the authenticity of its cultural atmosphere, and its vibrant scene. Special mention is made of its character as the last divided capital in Europe, as well as its hospitality and Mediterranean flair. The Municipality of Nicosia views this recognition as a strengthening of the city's position on the European and global cultural map. It confirms the Municipality's strategy to promote Nicosia as a modern, sustainable, and open cultural destination, with respect for the past and investment in the future. Also included in the top ten European cultural cities for 2026 are Florence, Vienna, Leuven, Sibenik, Verona, Tomar, Rouen, Oxford, and Graz. This distinction is expected to attract more tourists and boost the city's economy.
