Nicosia Under Lockdown: Road Closures and Parking Restrictions Ahead of Cypriot Presidency

Nicosia will be placed under heightened security measures ahead of the commencement of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 7, 2026. Police have announced parking restrictions on central city streets, such as Demostheni Severi, Grigoriou Auxentiou, and others, to facilitate the ceremony. Additionally, the Municipality of Nicosia will close the underground parking areas of the old GSP stadium to private vehicles. Road closures will begin around the Theatrical Organization of Cyprus (THOK) at 2:30 PM, with full access control. Drivers are urged to comply with police instructions and traffic regulations. Finally, a relevant decree prohibits the use of drones in the area of THOK and the Conference Center throughout the Presidency.
