Nigeria: At Least 9 Soldiers Killed in Ambush – 'Terrorists Planted Mine'

At least nine soldiers were killed and five injured in an ambush in Borno state, northeastern Nigeria. The incident occurred when a military convoy hit a mine planted by jihadists near the community of Bindutul. The region has been plagued by the activities of Boko Haram and the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) for 16 years, resulting in hundreds of thousands of people being displaced. The US launched airstrikes against ISWA in Nigeria on Christmas Day, warning of potential further attacks.
