Nikos Sykas to Appeal to Supreme Court Over Exclusion from DISY Ballot

MP Nikos Sykas intends to appeal to the Supreme Constitutional Court against the decision of the Democratic Rally (DISY) to exclude him from the ballot, following a complaint by a woman alleging assault. This was confirmed by Mr. Sykas's lawyer, Christos Pourgouridis. Mr. Pourgouridis stated that his client has already testified to the Police and answered all questions. He argued that the party's decision violates the presumption of innocence and basic principles of natural justice, as the MP was not given a hearing beforehand. He believes the case should have been examined by the party's Ethics Committee and that invoking the relevant Supreme Court decision to exclude Mr. Sykas is excessive. Mr. Sykas denies the allegations and argues that DISY's decision was hasty. In his testimony, he stated that he had not threatened anyone and that a foreigner, currently not in Cyprus, is behind the threats and demands for money.
