Orson Welles Manuscripts and Ray Gilbert's Oscar Among New Academy Museum Acquisitions

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced a series of new acquisitions for its collection, the largest in the world devoted to the art of filmmaking. Among the new exhibits are rare manuscripts and correspondence from Orson Welles, the bicycle from Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Ray Gilbert’s Oscar for “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah,” handwritten music cues for “High Noon,” Cicely Tyson’s gown, James Cagney’s shoes from “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” and roller skates from “Boogie Nights.” The Academy’s collection, which began in 1927, now comprises 52 million items covering every aspect of the filmmaking process.
