Panayiotou Comments on Reshuffle: 'No Warning Signs' from the President

Former Interior Minister Yiannis Panayiotou commented on his removal from office, emphasizing that his position was always precarious, as the recall or removal of a minister depends on the President's decision. He stressed that he received no warnings or 'warning signs' about the change, but acknowledged that the Constitution does not provide for such procedures for members of the Council of Ministers. Mr. Panayiotou referred to his work as Minister and the policies he implemented, which, he said, caused dissatisfaction among certain circles, such as employers and football clubs. He explained that this dissatisfaction was expected, given that his policies concerned issues such as debts and wage increases. Regarding the characterization of his removal as a political 'beheading', Mr. Panayiotou clarified that this was not his association. He stressed that the Government and the Ministry of Labor are responsible for addressing the reactions of these circles. Mr. Panayiotou expressed his satisfaction with Cyprus's foreign policy, which, he said, strengthens the country's role in the region and its credibility in the EU. He believed that Cyprus's upgrade is important for promoting its national interests, including the Cyprus issue.
