Paris Summit on Ukraine: European Countries and US Coordinate Security Guarantees

European countries allied with Ukraine and US envoys are meeting in Paris today to demonstrate their “convergence” regarding security guarantees for Kyiv and to clarify the outline of a “multinational force” that could be established if a ceasefire with Moscow is agreed upon. The French presidential office presents this new meeting of the so-called “coalition of the willing” as the culmination of efforts that began about a year ago, following the arrival of Donald Trump in the White House, to prevent the United States from “abandoning Ukraine.” Leaders will discuss the framework for a potential “multinational force” that could be deployed in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire. The summit will also examine specific commitments for developing operational plans for the multinational force and how to verify a ceasefire. A total of 35 countries are participating in the summit, as well as representatives from NATO and the European Union.
